8 dead in central India’s road mishap

NEW DELHI, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — As many as eight persons have died after the vehicle they were traveling in fell into a pond by the roadside in India’s central state of Chhattisgarh, said a local cop over phone on Sunday.
The road mishap occurred late Saturday night in the state’s Rajpur area.
The victims were traveling from Larima area in Balrampur district to the neighboring Surajpur district. Some of the deceased belonged to the same family, said the cop.
Preliminary reports suggested that the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn following which the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into the roadside pond.
Six persons died instantly in the accident, two more succumbed to their injuries later. ■
